Springfield Land Corporation Chairman Maha Sinnathamby today launched a bold last ditch pitch for United States President Barack Obama to squeeze a visit to Queensland into his Australian schedule.
Greater Springfield has sent a formal letter of invitation to President Obama and his family, asking him to reconsider his decision and include Queensland in his trip itinerary later this month.
"There is some real synergy here for the President that won't be lost on the world's political commentators," Mr Sinnathamby said.
"Visionary leader Abraham Lincoln was born in Springfield's namesake town in the USA, the same city in which Barack Obama chose to announce his candidacy for the US presidential election.
"We all know, the President has a huge health care battle on his hands at home and a visit to Springfield Health City could re-shape his administration's views on delivering answers in the area of service delivery and wellness."
Mr Sinnathamby said given President Obama was himself a Harvard alumni, he would understand the significance of Greater Springfield's decision to use research from world-renowned Harvard Medical International (HMI) to develop its $32 billion health city project.
"HMI recommended a Health City concept with a private/public partnership incorporating all forms of health care including primary care, acute care, alternative care, integrated residential including aged care, retirement living and hotels, education, research and E-health, underpinned by a strong focus on training future health workers," Mr Sinnathamby said.
"We believe what we have achieved here is not only amazing for the future of Australian health care delivery, it can also provide a blueprint for countries like America that are struggling to provide appropriate levels of support to its citizens.
"Springfield can offer President Obama and his advisors a case study like no other. Taking tea at The Lodge with the Rudd family, cuddling koalas, or giving Tony Abbott a run for his money on an Aussie beach might make for great pictures, but what could be gained by a visit to Greater Springfield could be life-changing for the American people."
