Greater Springfield Signs extends Delfin Deal
Greater Springfield has taken an important step into the future by signing an agreement with Delfin Lend Lease that will underpin the development of the city's emerging CBD.

The extension of the deal between SLC and Delfin Lend Lease will see the developer committed to the award-winning Springfield Lakes until 2020, whilst also investigating the feasibility of creating medium to high-density residential living within the Greater Springfield CBD. This will add to a diverse supply of housing product for the booming western corridor market.

Ipswich City Council supported Greater Springfield's proposal to increase its dwelling numbers in its 320ha town centre, from 2000 to 22,000, on the basis that the transport and other infrastructure that is being planned can accommodate a larger population. The total population of Greater Springfield is expected to reach 105,000 by 2026.

The Town Centre population will be housed in dwellings that will range from single detached dwellings to 25-storey apartment buildings. It's a vital plank in the future of southeast Queensland's development with the Western Corridor expected to host much of the population growth in the next 20 years.

Springfield Land Corporation and Delfin Lend Lease will continue to work with Ipswich City Council to master plan the region, ensuring the new population supports the world class retail, business, education and health precincts within the CBD, known as Springfield Central.

Springfield Land Corporation Managing Director Bob Sharpless said the involvement of Delfin Lend Lease was crucial in delivering the vision for Greater Springfield, Australia's fastest growing satellite city.

"We are continuing to work with all stakeholders including Ipswich City Council to ensure we create a benchmark community and the best possible outcomes for the Greater Springfield," said Mr Sharpless.

"This expansion will support the business community's significant investment into the Springfield CBD, generating the population base to support the growth of world class retail, business, education and health precincts."

Delfin Lend Lease CEO David Keir said the commitment to Springfield Lakes would ensure continuity of supply of much-needed housing in the supply-strapped South East Queensland.

"We are fully committed to Springfield as a major growth corridor south-west of Brisbane. We are now able to explore further diversity of housing, in particular higher density opportunities which are appropriate in relation to a CBD," Mr Keir said.

"Underlying the region's rapid growth, more than one family per day is moving to the award winning community of Springfield Lakes.

"We will focus on providing a range of housing for different family types, from first home buyers to families, single professionals and empty nesters.

"Delfin Lend Lease has had a strong and successful partnership with Springfield Land Corporation and Ipswich City Council and we are delighted to extend this relationship for a further period of time," Mr Keir said.

Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale welcomed the announcement as the next major chapter in the journey of Ipswich.

"The story of our city is still being written.  This represents a significant commitment to the future sustainable development in the western corridor," Cr Pisasale said.

"This agreement to the year 2020 is a renewed partnership that recognises the State Government's Regional and Infrastructure Plans.  It also supports Council's own detailed long term planning and extensive public consultation program which created a vision of the future of Ipswich - 2020 and Beyond.

"Springfield and Delfin will continue to provide the impetus for growth in our city and this is reflected in increased land values citywide.

"Springfield Central is at the centrepiece of this master-planned community and is being built based on education, health and recreation.

"The developers are to be congratulated on their vision," Cr Pisasale said.

Greater Springfield is a fully master planned city, which includes 2,860 hectares of residential, infrastructure and office accommodation, and is expected to house over 105,000 people by 2026.

Greater Springfield includes the Springfield Lakes master planned community, Orion Town Centre which is planned to become one of Australia's largest shopping town precincts, the business precinct Parkside and the award-winning Brookwater Golf Course.
