Federal budget initiatives will build nation and help build Greater Springfield
Greater Springfield has welcomed central tenets of the Federal Budget, which it says will support the master planned community as it grows to a burgeoning city.

Springfield Land Corporation Chairman Maha Sinnathamby said initiatives for affordable housing; infrastructure, education, health and childcare would provide vital assistance to residents in Australia's fastest growing region.

Recent house sales figures in Greater Springfield confirmed those growth predictions and showed the city was defying national trends in the face of repeated interest rate rises.

Sales in Springfield have grown by 49% from 2007 to 2008 (Matusik, Qld DNR and ABS), with a record number of lots submitted in 2008 for Springfield Lakes alone.

This compares dramatically with Australian Bureau of Statistics figures that reveal purchases by first homebuyers; owner-occupier and investors dropped 12.3 per cent in March.

"I welcome the Federal Government's initiatives aimed at assisting first home-buyers, because the majority still aspire to the great Australian dream of owning their own home," said Mr Sinnathamby.

"Home buyers are voting with their feet, realising that they can attain greater value for money in Greater Springfield – a city that offers all the important social infrastructure and facilities that the community expects.

It's disturbing when you read statistics that show 1 in 10 families are spending more time commuting to work than with each other. We know that one thing people love about Greater Springfield is that they can work, live and play all in the one community and have a greater quality of life.

"Greater Springfield welcomes the $20 billion Building Australia Fund that will address the transport issues that are impacting the quality of life of our communities socially."

Growth in Greater Springfield has contributed to the decision by the Queensland Government to fast track the review of its South East Queensland Regional Plan to 2031 and the Federal Government's commitment to infrastructure and housing affordability.

"Action in the areas of infrastructure, decentralisation and housing affordability will further cement Greater Springfield's progress toward becoming a major economic centre for South-East Queensland by 2026," said Mr Sinnathamby.

"With the population of South East Queensland growing by 600,000 to 4.3 million by 2026, up from the original projections of 250,000 to 3.96 million, there is a dire need to take this growth seriously and implement long-term planning for it."

Mr Sinnathamby said the Federal Government's commitment to health, education and establishing the National Housing affordability Fund is also welcomed.

"The philosophy behind Greater Springfield is to create a well resourced and sustainable city that offers families a complete place to live, play, work, learn and achieve their lifestyle dreams.

"We want to support the three new families moving here every day, with a community that offers high quality education, health and housing together with an outstanding lifestyle.

"With a focus now on maintaining the Australian lifestyle, we also applaud both levels of government for recognising the value of diversifying and decentralising employment opportunities for this region by providing jobs closer to where people live.
