Monday 29 June 2009

Charity will be the winner this July when Brookwater Golf Club becomes a winter wonderland.

Springfield Land Corporation Chairman Maha Sinnathamby said the third annual event is expected to be more popular than ever, with all money raised going to the Ipswich Mayor's Community Fund.

In the lead up to this year's event Snow Men and Snow Angels will be raising money for the fund by selling snowflake bookmarks.

The snowflake sales will also go directly to the Mayor's Community Fund which helps people recover from emergencies.

Mayor Paul Pisasale said the fund is now in a position to respond quickly to emergency and tragic situations.

"Ipswich is a very community-minded city and has always supported those in need whenever possible," Cr Pisasale said.

"The fund allows us to provide assistance to ease the financial burden faced by people in the community recovering from tragedies.

"For example recent recipients include a mother of five who lost her husband in a tractor accident last year, a couple whose uninsured Walloon house was destroyed by fire and a Goodna couple who tragically lost a child in a house fire last year.

"They each received $2000 from the Mayor's Community Fund in March this year."

Mr Sinnathamby said as well as raising money for a great cause guests at this year's ball will enjoy music, entertainment, charity auctions and raffles.

"This event would not be possible without the valuable support from our sponsors - Strategic Directions, Grant Thornton, Jmac, Orion Springfield, Hutchinson Builders, Delfin, NEC, Wingate Properties, Mayor Paul Pisasale, Centenary Classic, USQ Springfield, AMEX Corporation, Pensar, and Bremer TAFE," Mr Sinnathamby said.

The Springfield Winter Wonderland Charity Boulevard Ball will be held on Friday 17 July 2009, with a 6.45pm for a 7pm start and will be held at the Brookwater Golf Club, Tournament Drive, Brookwater.
